Orphanie Bégon-Leroy

Les Poupées D’Or was founded by Orphanie Bégon-Leroy, a young woman of Haitian origin. A translator by profession, she has been working for more than 10 years as a trilingual interpreter for the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada, and also holds an ASP in business start-up. Eager to serve her community, her career path led her to sit on the Board of Directors of the Association de la communauté Noire de la Côte-des-Neiges in 2015, and her passion for culture led her to win the coveted title of Miss Haiti Canada 2017, thus strengthening her voice in her community. Through her company Les Poupées D’Or, the young woman has made it her mission to bring more diversity and much-needed representation to the toy industry. Having noticed the few options available in terms of black dolls on the market, and aware of the negative effects of this phenomenon on toddlers, Orphanie fills this gap so that black children can find themselves in their toys and be proud of their natural attributes.

The young woman’s significant work has earned her several media appearances, including Global News, CBC radio, CTV Montreal and La Presse. Orphanie works with passion and determination to realize her vision of having her line of black dolls sold on the shelves of department stores locally and internationally.
